Peacecamp 2008

Today I found the following notice on an Austrian online news-bulletin:

A three year old girl from Germany went on her bike away from home and reached Holland after 2 hours. She had made about 6 km on her own bike with stabiliser wheels and was found by the Dutch police after her parents had announced her disappearance.

Ein dreijähriges Mädchen ist gestern mit seinem Fahrrad in Deutschland ausgebüxt und nach Holland geradelt. Das Kind habe in etwa zwei Stunden sechs Kilometer zurückgelegt und die Grenze überquert, berichtete ein Polizeisprecher heute im niedersächsischen Meppen.

Die kleine Rennfahrerin bewältigte die Strecke mit Stützrädern. Die in Haren lebenden Eltern hatten das Mädchen bei der Polizei als vermisst gemeldet.

Zuvor hatten die Eltern mit Nachbarn und Freunden verzweifelt die Umgebung durchkämmt. Polizisten griffen die Ausreißerin schließlich im niederländischen Emmen auf und brachten sie nach Hause.

Peacecamp 2008
the 10 rules of the camp


1. DO always communicate in English, which is the language common to all on the camp

2. DO always address people directly: talk TO not ABOUT somebody

3. DO respect the structure and time-table of peacecamp 2007: DO arrive on time to meals and workshops, DO participate in all the activities

4. DO talk freely about whatever bothers or preoccupies you. DO express your opinions and feelings openly, frankly. DO stand up for your opinions and convictions.

5. DO treat others respectfully and with care. DO respect rest- and sleeping-hours.

6. DO treat your environment, the space and all the things around you with respect and care. DO keep your space and rooms clean

7. DO NOT hurt, offend or attack others. If you get into a fight, use words, not actions to make your point.

8. DO NOT damage or waste things: handle equipment with respect and care. DO leave rooms and equipment as you would like to find them.

9. DO NOT pile up more food on your plate than you will eat; DO NOT hoard any food in your rooms. Eat as much as you want but DO NOT waste any food

10. DO try to make the best of this time and take home as much as possible from the days of the camp. DO give your best and DO take the most out of it. Remember that in order to receive, you must be ready to give.
